Juneau

My first trip for work brought me to Juneau! It was my first visit there. Despite it being rainy and overcast for 3 of the 4 days, it was beautiful. The city sits right on a port and the water and mountains are gorgeous. Juneau is actually a temperate rain forest, so it has many more trees than Anchorage does. I loved the green mountains.

We took a tram ride to the top of a mountain overlooking downtown.

We visited Mendenhall Glacier. So picturesque!

When I got back to Anchorage, Jason and I went to one of our favorite spots, Beluga Point. We've been hoping to see Belugas there ever since the first time we went. We finally lucked out! Jason spotted one and then as we looked out over the water we saw a pod of them. Every minute we would see another graze the water. It was so exciting!

I am currently traveling for work. My first trip out has been a wonderful experience. I will hopefully post again by the end of the week to share some pictures and stories from my trip!

Wonderful End to the Summer

Well, the summer is coming to an end. I can honestly say I think this might have been the best summer I've ever had. Between all of our visitors, adventures, trips, and the beautiful Alaskan weather, it was an amazing summer! At the end of July, Jason's mother Olive came to visit. It was a great visit. Here are a few pictures from when she was here.
We climbed a mountain!

After Olive's visit, Jason and I made a trip back to CT for my friend's wedding and to spend time with our families.
Beautiful bride Annie!

My family has gone to the same beach since I was a child, and it has become a home away from home. It was so nice to see family and friends and to relax at beautiful Old Kelsey Point!
It was the year of creatures....
 Sand worm
Giant jellyfish
Creepy sand shark
Catching crabs
Cuties in the sand
The famous bug zapper
Two buds
It was a great week!

As the summer comes to an end, I'm beginning a new job. I accepted a position with a non-profit education agency in Anchorage that services the village schools throughout Alaska. I will be traveling to 4 different school districts to serve as the speech pathologist for those districts. It is an amazing opportunity which will allow me to see various parts of Alaska and to experience the culture of the Native Alaskan villages. I hope to share a lot of my experiences with you all here on my blog! I am so grateful for this unique opportunity and so grateful for Jason, who has been incredibly supportive and encouraging with this new opportunity. xoxo
